Let me answer your question with a question - do you want to lose fat, build muscle or both?

Perhaps the best study examining this question was released in the Journal of Applied Physiology at the end of 2012. They concluded that for fat loss it was important to perform cardio and that this intervention was more effective than weights. They also found no measurable difference in total fat loss between groups on a cardio plan and those on a cardio / weights combination. If your goal on the other hand is to increase muscle then a weights only program is most superior when compared to a cardio / weights combination.

Thus if you are limited for time and weight loss is your primary objective then cardio based activities are the most effective use of your time. As for muscle gain stick to weights.
